چکیده

We investigated neurogenic, non-neurogenic, and structural contributions to vascular resistance in hindquarters in five groups of guinea pigs after heart failure produced by (1) constriction of the pulmonary artery (RHF), (2) constriction of the ascending aorta (LHFA), and (3) constriction of the descending thoracic aorta (LHFD); (4) after left ventricular hypertrophy produced by mild constriction of the ascending aorta (LVH); and (5) after sham surgery. Pressure-flow curves were used to assess vascular resistance in the isolated, perfused hindquarters. In RHF and LHFA, vascular resistance tended to increase and for different reasons. In the LHFA group, sympathectomy produced the greatest vasodilation. Therefore, neurogenic influences predominated. The high neurogenic tone may have been related to reduced arterial pulse pressure (P < 0.05) and reflexes arising in arterial baroreceptors. In contrast, the LHFD group had increased arterial pressure and pulse pressure (P < 0.05) and normal neurogenic vasoconstriction. However, non-neurogenic vasoconstriction was increased probably as a result of increased vascular responsiveness to constrictor stimuli. In the RHF group, papaverine produced the greatest vasodilation (P < 0.05). Therefore, non-neurogenic influences predominated. This was attributed to both increased vascular responsiveness and to altered humoral stimuli. Similar maximal vasodilation indicated that structural factors contributed equally to vascular resistance in all the groups. These results indicate differences in the regulation of vascular resistance in anesthetized, guinea pig models of right and left heart failure.

A New Minimum Order Lumped-Parameter Model of Circulatory System for Patients with Suffered Left and Right-Sided Heart Failure

In this study a new minimum lumped electrical model of total circulatory system through numerical solutions to approximate the response of the human circulatory system was presented. Among five existent ventricular elastances as activity function of heart pumps, a more accurate model was chosen as well as the operation of baroreflex system to accommodate variations in heart rate and systemic va...

A comparison of virulence of intraperitoneal infection of Burkholderia mallei strains in guinea-pigs

Male guinea pigs show high susceptibility to Burkholderia mallei and have been used as animal models in glanders studies. The purpose of our study was to elucidate glanders comparative pathogenesis in guinea pigs. We present here the histological changes and bacterial isolation that develop over time in guinea pigs inoculated intraperitoneally (IP) with two strain of B. mallei. Ten male guinea ...

Right sided heart evaluation after successful mitral valve replacement.

Introduction: It is well-documented that right-sided heart dysfunction and significant tricuspid valve regurgitation (TVR) have adverse effects on patient outcomes after left-sided heart valve surgery. Therefore, the evaluation of right ventriclular (RV) function and TR severity in patients who had undergone mitral valve replacement (MVR), associated with/without concomitant su...

Antitussive Effect of Rosa damascena in Guinea pigs

Several therapeutic effects including hypnotic, antispasmodic, treatment of abdominal and chest pain and strengthening the heart have been described for the flowers of Rosa damascena. North American Indian tribes use a decoction of the roots obtained from the Rosa damascena plant as a cough remedy and to treat eye problem. Therefore, in the present study the antitussive effect of this plant in ...

In vitro Lymphoproliferative Responses of Trichostrongylus colubriformis High and Low Responder Guinea Pigs to Worm Antigens (SPL3, SPA) and Ovalbumin

In vitro lymphocyte responses of high responder (HR) and low responder (LR) guinea pigs from pe-ripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) to parasite antigens soluble protein third stage larvae (SPL3) and soluble protein adult stage ( SPA), non-parasite antigen ovalbumin (OVA) were examined. There was substantial differences between HR and LR guinea pigs in the rate of acquisition of responsiveness to t...
